Confession: I love video games, but I usually hate playing them or talking about it.
I don’t have the coordination or concentration to be a consistent gamer but I still really like learning about and watching all different kinds. I used to watch video game play throughs frequently, especially during difficult times and to help me sleep. It’s something that’s very comforting and magical to me, especially the retro stuff.
But it’s hard to share my love for it or join in, when other enthusiasts are good at playing and know more than I do. There’s an intensity and I haven’t really had anyone come down to my level to patiently enjoy where I’m at.
I get it, and although I’m happy it does suck sometimes.
Side story: A couple games that I really got into, I messed up pretty bad. The first was Deltarune. I didn’t prep properly and died my last death and had to restart but I hadn’t reached the save point so I lost signiiificant progress. I had to take space from the game for almost a year.
The next was Pentiment, while I was healing from surgery. I was playing for hours at a time. There was a moment far into the game where I was stumped and tired so quickly googled “where to find _____ in Pentiment” and the FIRST SENTENCE on the result said “______, the mastermind behind the murders…”
What. I know to be careful with looking up info but…
Are you for real.
I almost cried.
