Day 364

Confession: My 31st birthday is in a week. There was a 1% chance I’d make it to 30 free, alive or sane. Not only did I arrive, but I’ve spent every single day of it building this project.

That’s hard for me to grasp.

Especially when there’s a lot of loss around this time of year. It’s tricky to navigate when you’re called to be the center of attention. I’m finding the balance though.

But I do need better boundaries on gifts. It stresses me out. I feel guilt about that. I’m grateful, but as a kid I had time alone set aside to cry. I don’t like receiving gifts and I don’t like giving them, unless its purpose has value or necessity.  It all overwhelms me.

Everything I own now fits into the back of my covered truck bed. If I buy something, I remove something. This “minimalist” lifestyle feels safe to me. I like knowing where everything is and that I can pack up in a single day. I know this stems from what I went through. But I’m happy with it.

Nature or nurture?

Either way, I’ve beat the odds, and I can do it again.

Sound of the day: Vangelis – La petite fille de la mer https://youtu.be/TkGALUCgEw0?si=6dtzfaN7r7L_TgYi
